1) Antique Bakery is now dropped, because a key member lost interest in the show and doesn’t have as much time as before. And no, we don’t have anyone to fill in. Furthermore there are two other good groups subbing it, so you probably won’t be missing much, or nothing, if you’ve been following our version.

2) Les Miserables is dropped, since we had a second (or is it third?) translator disappear that was meant to work on it. And once again, no, we don’t have anyone to fill in. This one is worse off, since there are no other fansubs out (even non-English ones, well… there are, but they’re not much further than the English ones and are stuck too for whatever reasons). Just shows how little interest there is in unpopular series. I could go and rant on about that, but most people in front of the screen don’t care, so I’ll leave it for the staff channel.

3) We are looking for a temporary translation checker for all our current projects. The current one seems to have been busy lately, hence why Shugo Chara is stuck on translation checking and soon more will come to that stage.

4) We are looking for a translator. No, not freelance. For what show/period? Well, that’s up to the translator. We have some preferences and whatnot, but if someone manages to get as far as applying for it on our IRC channel (#formula-recruits on Rizon) you’ll surely hear about it there. Also, please don’t apply if you plan on disappearing or thinking that idling is what fansubbers do.

5) Xam’d is awesome, but Sony needs a bit of a slap.

Sorry for some of the points sounding bitter, but given their content I cannot help it.

Have a nice day.

P.S. For those wondering… No, translation checking does not involve checking typos. You check for… translation errors, as the title suggests, therefore you need to be proficient in both the source and target language.

Yes, it’s dropped. Shinsen has received a Cease and Desist email regarding Reborn from FUNImation for all of the episodes we have released so far. In other words, the whole show is untouchable, not just “season 1″ like D.Gray-Man. So, in accordance with our policy of not working on licensed anime, we are dropping the show, sadly.

Special thanks to KingofBraves who has translated the show since episode eight. He’s just awesome like that, plus he’s a super nice guy! Thanks to martino for encoding every episode since 06 even though he hated every moment of it. Big thanks to Light- for doing most of the timing, Lykos for doing tons of QCs, and Vincent for making Formula do this show in the first place. Other notable names include DeeCie, Silentdragonz, Soichiro, iriseyes, ebonyskies, Anakyn, theknife… Probably more. So, this is the end of a big chapter in Formula’s life. Kind of sucks, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles. Please support the show and buy the DVDs when they become available in your region.

Also, LesMis has killed a third translator and is stalled again. We expect to drop it soon due to lack of a reliable TL.

OMG it’s been twelve days since our last release. We’re slow, we fail at life, et cetera.

We still need a translator for Mai-Otome s.ifr OVA2.

As you may have noticed, we have the comments turned off for all of our posts. This was done because of a high percentage of people either attacking us or bickering with those users, so we simply put an end to it. We don’t necessarily need to see the same users thanking us for every release.

However, this meant that the only way for users to communicate with the group was through IRC, which may be inconvenient or not viable for some. Thusly, this Questions & Answers page was devised by Lykos.

  • How it works: submit a comment on any post marked “Q&A.” The comment won’t appear, but it will be read. Periodically, any questions deemed worthwhile will be quoted and then answered in new posts.

So, when asking a question, please try to be comprehensive. We don’t want to have the same person asking a dozen little questions in a row. As to what kind of questions to ask and what not to ask: please use common sense, because the comments are moderated, and thus you’ll be only wasting your own time and ours too, instead of fansubbing, working or doing other tasks that humans usually do. Also, the following types of questions will be disregarded by default:

  • If you have a question about playback, this is not the correct venue in which to ask. Please check out our “Playback” section.
  • Also please do not ask when episode XX of show Y will come out. We are as aware of delays as you are. However, if you have questions about the fansubbing process in general, go ahead.
  • Do not ask whether we can do series x and/or y. Chances are we won’t be able to help you, and if we could, this wouldn’t be the right place to ask.

It’s out. If x = the amount of gay in Antique Bakery, and y = the amount of gay in Tadase’s character transformation, we can safely assume that x ≈ y. This release is for r-i-d in Russia, who was the first person to donate since January.

Also, the person who translated Mai-Otome S.ifr for us has apparently bailed, so we are in dire need of a translator for OVA2. If you are willing and able to translate, please hop onto our IRC channel and poke any chanop.
